Elevation Analysis Cross-Section Engine
Collapsed Thinset Bed Thickness
7/32 in
~5.5 mm compressed solid bed
Total Finished Height 25/32 in (19.8 mm total buildup)
Threshold Transition +1/32 in Virtually Flush
Mortar Bed Class Medium-Bed (LHT) > 3/16" threshold
Recommended Reducer Schluter RENO-T Transition strip
ANSI Bed Depth Check: Within approved limits. LHT medium-bed mortar required for beds exceeding 3/16" to eliminate slumping.
Complies with ANSI A108.02 & TCNA Handbook Elevation Specifications

Coverage and bag counts are preliminary planning estimates calibrated to published ANSI A108/A118 standards and manufacturer Technical Data Sheets (TDS). Always perform jobsite test mockups. Inspect our mathematical methodology and our Editorial & Corrections Policy.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers backed by TCNA Handbook recommendations and ANSI specifications.

When a tile is pressed and collapsed into combed mortar ridges, the final thinset bed thickness is approximately 1/3 of the trowel notch depth. For example, a 1/4" × 1/4" square notch leaves a collapsed bed of roughly 3/32" (2.4 mm). A 1/2" × 1/2" square notch leaves a collapsed bed of roughly 3/16" to 1/4" (4.8 to 6 mm) when including a back-butter skim coat.
